Sewing The Erin Dungarees

I was fortunate enough to use The Erin Dungarees sewing kit from Minerva.com as a Minerva Ambassador. The kit contains everything you need from the pattern to the fabric and thread, to create your own dungarees. You can find out more details in my Erin Dungarees Kit Review on my profile over at Minerva.com.

The Erin Dungarees have a relaxed fit and a laid-back, slouchy feel. They feature wide straps, hidden pockets, and an easy pull-on design—no fiddly zippers or buttons! The pattern includes a cropped and full-length option, so its a versatile piece for different seasons.

Notions & Fabric Choice

  • Recommended Fabrics: Soft woven fabrics like soft cotton twill, or chambray or low stretch knit fabrics like French Terry or Ponte Roma.
  • Fabric I Used: A Minerva Exclusive Loop Back French Terry
  • Other Notions: Medium interfacing, cotton poplin lining for the bib portion, ballpoint needles and matching thread.

Instructions For the Erin Dungarees

As always, Tilly and the Buttons patterns are beginner-friendly with clear step-by-step photos. Dungarees are pretty straight forward to make and with lack of hardwear to attach, it makes the pattern even easier to construct. Great for confident beginners and an enjoyable make for more experienced sewists.

Fit & Adjustments

  • The fit was intentionally oversized, and I could have done with making a size smaller Instead, I made adjustments to the trouser legs by making them half an inch narrower along the outer seams. Its always a good idea to make a test garment to ensure you’re happy with the ease (extra room) that is built into the pattern.
  • I made the full length version and I didn’t make any adjustments to the length of the trousers

Construction & Techniques

  • The pattern is simple but introduces great beginner techniques like creatign buttonholes, understitching, and sewing a different style of pocket.
  • If using a heavier fabric, be sure to use a light fabric to line the bib to reduce bulk
  • The straps are secured with simple knots—no buckles needed! This makes them adjustable and super easy to wear.

Final Thoughts & Rating

4.5/5 – A relaxed, comfy make with a modern feel. Ideal for layering year-round!

Would I sew this again? Yes! I’m looking forward to making a short version for summer.

Who would I recommend it for? Confident beginners looking for a fun, easy-to-wear wardrobe staple.
