It’s time I upped my fitting game!!
Lately, I’ve felt like I needed to take my sewing to another level and do something I often avoid, and that’s learning how to make proper fit adjustments on my handmade clothes. I’ve been offered the chance to take part in Cashmerette’s Sloper School, and I’m buzzing about it! If you’re anything like me, fitting is the part of sewing that can sometimes feel a bit overwhelming, especially when you’ve got big boobs and curves. Although I’ve been sewing for years, I know I need to get better at fitting the clothes I make, so when this opportunity came up, I jumped at it.
The course is led by Jenny Rushmore, who you probably know from her books Ahead of the Curve and Sewing the Curve, all about fitting alterations and sewing basics for curvy sewists. I actually had the chance to be a model in Ahead of the Curve, which gave me a glimpse into how much care, knowledge, and passion she puts into her work. She really gets the challenges of fitting a curvier body, and she’s all about giving us the tools and confidence to make garments that actually fit how we want them to.
So yep—I’m in. Unfortunately, enrollment for Sloper School has ended for 2025, but read on to find out what it’s all about.
So, What Is Sloper School?
Cashmerette’s Sloper School is an 11-week interactive online course run by Jenny and the Cashmerette team, and it’s all about helping you make and use your own perfectly fitting sloper. The idea is to get the fit right once, and you’ll be able to sew confidently forever. That means less guesswork, fewer muslins/toiles, and a much smoother sewing experience overall.

Here’s how it works:
Step 1: Start with the Wyman Dress Sloper
This isn’t a drafting-from-scratch kind of course (thankfully!). You’ll get the Wyman Dress Sloper included as your starting point, so you can jump straight into making it fit your body.
Step 2: Personalised Fitting Help
Each week focuses on fitting a different part of the sloper with detailed video lessons. You’ll also get personal support from Jenny and her team through live Fit Clinics and a private community forum. So you’re not doing this alone—there’s proper guidance every step of the way.
Step 3: Actually Use Your Sloper
Once it fits, you’ll learn exactly how to put it to work, like how to assess the fit of new patterns and how to turn your sloper into totally new designs. It’s a skillset that’ll save you time and frustration in the long run.
Meet the Curvy Sewing Community
Sloper School comes with a lovely, supportive community of curvy sewists from all over the world. Everyone’s working toward a better fit, cheering each other on, and sharing their wins and challenges. If you’ve ever wished you had people to talk to about fitting darts or shoulder adjustments, you’ll feel right at home here.
If you’ve been wanting to level up your fit game like I have, I honestly think this course is worth checking out when enrollment opens again. I’ll be sharing bits of my journey as I go, so keep an eye out—and if you’ve joined too, let me know!
